Weaving towards a brighter future.

 Who are we?

CARE 4 Basket is a non-profit organization focused on transforming plastic waste into beautifully crafted baskets and handmade products, produced in Bolgatanga, Ghana, and available to buy in the UK.

Founded in 2014 by Ghanaian-born Jib Hagan, who has lived in the UK for over 40 years, the organization empowers local artisans and promotes sustainability.

With support from the Ghana Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), CARE 4 Basket is working to reduce waste and create economic opportunities for the Bolgatanga community.

  • 35 Tonnes

of waste plastic has been collected and recycled.

  • 250 Artisan Weavers

employed and paid a fair wage in upper-east Ghana.

  • 6,000+ Computers

given to local schools and students to improve learning.

Empowering weaving communities

To date, 250 artisans are employed by CARE 4 Basket. Earning a fair wage has helped to keep traditional crafts alive. By re-investing their wages into crops, the health and wealth of these rural communities are sustained.

As Jib spends most of the year in the UK with his family, Team Leaders from each village help to co-ordinate production, shipment and more.

Care4Basket has collected just over 35 Tonnes of waste plastic to be recycled. Much of which has then been directly woven into our unique gifts.

All Care4Basket products are handwoven from 100% recycled plastic that would otherwise have gone to landfill or been burnt. We are passionate about bettering our environment, and reducing waste is a key part of that.

We have a thriving pitch at Arundel Market every Spring and Summer, sell locally in Brighton’s infamous North Laine, and for 8 years, provided crafted sunglasses cases for B Corp, Pala Eyewear.

Reducing waste

Education and opportunity

Care Computers for Developing Countries aka “CAREC4DC” is a sister organisation to CARE 4 Basket.

On a mission to provide computers for less privileged schools to support with learning and promote recycle and environmental awareness in Ghana.

Schools are incentivised to collect waste plastic, which is recycled into weaving materials for Care 4 Basket products. Computers, furniture and, books are supplied to the schools in exchange - whilst students, teachers, and families learn the value of recycling over burning plastic.
